1st Place Best Classic and 1st Place Most Original Classic, Big Daddy's car show at Sunland Park Race Track and Casino

June 19, 2005

Thursday (10/28/04) we were downtown where they are filming a movie "Glory Road" about Don Haskins and the 1966 Texas Western College (UTEP) Basketball team's road to winning the NCAA Championship.

It was like going back to High School with all the old cars lining the street and all the extras dress just like we dressed back then.  Yes the TBird will be in the movie along with the 1960 Ford Pickup and the 1960 TBrid convertible.

Downtown El Paso

Courtney and Milo with the TBird

They gave up around midnight and went home, I was there until 4:00 am

This Thunderbird has been stored for 20 years. I keep telling myself that we are not restoring this T-Bird, we are making it a daily driver.

I get a lot of emails wanting to know if I will sell the car.  The answer is yes I will sell it, but I will not give it away.  These cars go for $38,000 plus if it is showroom see www.nada.com and add for AC.  Well mine is not showroom, but it is close.  If you are interest in buying this car I will take not a cent under $23,500.

Items we have done so far:

1. Rebuild transmission (stored too long).  Needs to go back to the shop - not shifting into third.

2. Replaced  carburetor with Holly Avenger 650.  Still have original  in box.

3. The top was a mess, new hydraulic hose, new pump, one new solenoid, just when the top started going up and down one of the top cylinders started shooting out fluid ........... I'm sure there is more to come.  Put on two new cylinders for the top and one new cylinders for the trunk.

4. Got the heater to work.

5. Got AC to work.

6. Top now goes up and down.

7. New paint job.

8.  Put a rebuilt 390 long block in.

9.  New Top

10.  Installed new rubber around doors and trunk.

11.  New trunk lining.

12.  Found am/8 Track and installed it and speakers front and back.

13.  New carpet.

14.  New total exhaust system.

15.  New windshield rubber.

16.  New Holly electric fuel pump made for carburetor, no more vapor lock.

17.  New master cylinder.

18.  New Pertronix Ignition .

19.  Recore radiator with 4 rows, runs a lot cooler.

20.  Installed new eyebrows

21.  Painted Tonneau Cover the same color as the car.

22.  Repainted it again, paint was chipped by a hail storm out of Vega, TX in June 2003.  Paint looks great.

Things to do:

1.  Rubber for top - where windows slide in.

2.  Time for new seat covers and foam.

This is Gene Matthews. He is a Mustang nut and anybody in the El Paso area that drives a 60's Mustang know Gene well. He has a driver 1965 Thunderbird and two parts T-Birds that has saved me a lot of time and money finding parts for my 66.
